Carnival Of Darkness Short Film Festival August 6th

The 1st Annual Carnival of Darkness short film festival will be held August 6th at The Majestic Crest Theater in Westwood, Ca.

Carnival of Darkness showcases the very best new work from independent horror filmmakers. This celebration of ‘creepy’ and original film shorts and music videos will culminate in a one hour panel discussion featuring top names in the horror world.

Co-producers Alex Bram and Leah Cevoli have selected the historic landmark Crest Theater not only because of its state-of-the-art sound and projection equipment and large seating capacity (465 seats), but also because it exemplifies the indie spirit of the festival. The Crest is one of the last remaining independently owned and operated theaters in Los Angeles.

Cuba Travel Services Offers Non-Stop Flights from L.A. to Havana

Cuba Travel Services, Inc. will begin offering non-stop weekly flights from LAX to Havana starting June 30, 2009. The move comes as The Obama Administration recently lifted travel restrictions to Cuba. This gives Cubans people greater ease to visit their relatives in that country.

"President Obama has directed that a series of steps be taken to reach out to the Cuban people to support their desire to enjoy basic human rights and to freely determine their country's future," White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said.

The Strand and Shorebreak Hotel Opens In Huntington Beach


Huntington Beach welcomes a new ocean front destination for locals and visitors with the grand opening celebration for The Strand – a shopping, dining and entertainment complex that features Shorebreak Hotel, the latest premier boutique property from Joie de Vivre. The Strand opening also will recognize and honor the city’s Centennial.

On Saturday, May 16 the public is invited to a “block party” at The Strand that begins at noon with a dedication of the signature art installation “Waterline” created by renowned artists Jud Fine and Barbara McCarren. The action stays on The Strand’s main thoroughfare, 5th Street, with activities for the kids, contests and live performances from Pawn Shop Kings, Meg & Dia and The Maine.

Just steps from the pier, the collection of shops and eateries at The Strand include Ra Sushi, Forever 21, Active Ride Shop, Rip Curl, Merrilee’s Swimwear, CVS Pharmacy, New Zealand Natural Ice Cream, the new Zimzala Restaurant at Shorebreak, Johnny Rockets opening later in May and Angl opening in June. Dotted along the sidewalks are an eclectic array of colorful cart retailers.

Join the Browncoats for the 2009 Can't Stop the Serenity screenings!



Joss Whedon’s fans, the Browncoats, organized 2009 screenings of his film Serenity to benefit Equality Now. Equality Now is an organization whose mission is to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world.

The events are planned all through out the summer with a stop in Los Angeles at the Laemmle Sunset 5 on June 14, 2009.
